With the Easter break right around the corner, you may be looking for some staycation options. With an array of activities to suit every member of the family, Westport is the perfect place to holiday this year!

 

We have compiled a list of ten activities to keep you entertained in the beautiful town of Westport, Co. Mayo.

 

1. Climb Croagh Patrick

Take in the breath-taking views of Westport and climb the holiest mountain in Ireland! Named after St. Patrick, this mountain offers stunning views of Clew Bay, the Wild Atlantic Way and the beautiful town of Westport.

2. Westport Walking Tours

Westport Tours is the number one walking tour in Ireland. You’ll get the experience the culture of Westport and the beautiful heritage that comes with it. They’ll introduce you to all the local gems, such as the best ice-cream, the best pints, the best pubs and the best restaurants.

3. Wild West

If you are looking for entertainment for the kids, the Wild West Play Centre provides fun playing facilities for toddlers to ten-year-olds. They also have a sensory room to help children actively use their senses through ‘sensory play’.

4. Westport House 

Westport House & Gardens is one of the very few privately owned historic houses remaining in Ireland. The House has an abundance of original artefacts, artwork and treasures that will fascinate all culture-vultures with a total of 30 rooms on show. The Westport Estate is also home to The Pirate Adventure Park which offers rides, slides, boats, trains and much more.

5. Trad Music 

If you’re searching for live traditional music, look no further than Cobbler’s bar, part of The Wyatt Hotel. Cobbler’s bar offers live sessions on Thursdays and Sundays from 8:30pm.

6. Westport Leisure Park

Guests at The Wyatt Hotel have free access to Westport Leisure Park. which is just a 2 minute walk from the hotel. It features a 25m indoor swimming pool, toddler pool, sauna, steamroom, plunge pool, and a fully air-conditioned gym.

7. Clew Bay

Clew Bay is a natural ocean bay, overlooked by Croagh Patrick. It contains Ireland’s best example of sunken drumlins. Westport Cruises offer 90 minute cruises along Clew Bay and it’s islands.

There is an array of beautiful beaches near Westport such as Bertra, Old Head, Carrowmore, Mulranny and Keem Bay. Perfect for some wild swimming!

9. The Great Western Greenway

The Great Western Greenway is a walking and cycling trail, that runs 44km in distance. It begins in wonderful Westport, through Newport and Mulranny and ends in the famous Achill.

10. Horse Riding

Carrowholly Stables is situated 3 miles outside Westport and offers fantasic trail rides and beach rides. They have trail rides suitable for all levels from beginner to horse enthusiasts!
