Sit back and relax and let us tell you a little bit about ourselves..............
The Wyatt Hotel, located on the Octagon in the heart of Westport has gone through many changes since it was known as the Grand Central Hotel. Now our facilities include 51 individually designed bedrooms, JW's Bar & Brasserie, Function Rooms to accommodate a variety of meetings, banquets and weddings and our on-going refurbishments in the Hotel such as the new Cobblers Bar & Courtyard which opened in the summer 2008. We are also planning to continue with refurbishments to our bedrooms and main lobby areas.
But enough about the bricks and mortar, what about the team....................
Our team at the Wyatt Hotel consists of many walks of life and nationalitys. Some have just gradated college, some are just going to college, some have been here as long back as anyone can remember and some are here just because they love working in the place! (promise) Barney Clarke the General Manager joined the Wyatt Team in January 2008. Barney has previously worked in the Merrion Hotel Dublin; Hotel Westport; The House Hotel Galway while also gaining experience working in America and Australia. Our Head Chef Eoin McDonnell has been with us for nearly six and a half years. Eoin trained in the Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny and also the Earl of Desmond Hotel in Tralee, Co Kerry after training he moved to Switzerland and worked in some of the most prestigious restaurants for nine years. On returning home he worked at a Head Chef position in some of Dublins best restaurants before joining the Wyatt Hotel Team in 2003. Westport local Bernie Greene is our accommodation manager and has been with us when the Hotel used to be called the Grand Central Hotel. Aside from telling us ghost stories about how the hotel is haunted, Bernie ensures that each bedroom is cleaned to the highest of standards and every guest accommodation request is dealt with in a quick and timely manner.
And our achievements..............
Our team was awarded the Optimus Service Excellence Award 2009 which if for achieveing Service Excellence through Delivering a consistantly high standard of customer service on a continous basis. Also this year we were we were awarded with our 3* AA Quality Standard Award 2009. Some of our team here at the Wyatt were awarded with the Fáilte Ireland Customer Service Excellence Award for 2009. And we hope these awards continue into 2010 and beyond.
So what do we do in our spare time................
This year saw the first Wyatt Hotel tag rugby team compete in the Westport Tag Rugby League. We took second place in the social league only losing by one point in the dying seconds of the final. But we will be back faster and better for the Tage Rugby League 2010, watch this space. Also this year saw our reservations manager Jennifer Sexton take part in the Flora Womens Mini Marathon 2009 for the first time. She hopes to beat her time next year. We have just started bi monthly table quizzes in our Cobblers Bar & Courtyard in aid of a different charity each time.
