Westport House, Gardens & Pirate Adventure Park

Westport is home to Westport House, Gardens & Pirate Adventure Park which was once was home to the pirate chief Grace O'Malley, in the mid-to-late 16th century. The house stands today as Ireland’s most beautiful historic home and is a popular visitor attraction.

The magnificent ‘big house’ is now owned and operated by The Browne Family, direct descendants of Grace O’Malley. The House has an abundance of original artefacts, artwork and treasures that will fascinate all culture-vultures with a total of 30 rooms on show. The story of the people behind the house is equally fascinating as the house itself with a history of pirates, slave emancipators and pioneers; it couldn’t be anything but riveting! For over 300 years, the Browne’s have worked passionately to preserve this beautiful piece of Irish heritage and the story of this commitment is told throughout the house in guided and self-guided tours, 5 permanent exhibitions and reading materials.

Westport House is open daily from 10am from March 1st to November 4th and after taking it all in visitors can enjoy a cup of tea in the restored Olde Kitchen Tea Rooms, pick up a souvenir from the Pantry Gift Shop or stroll around the beautiful gardens to take in the Greek Sarcophagus, Spanish Armada Cannon and other treasures.

The award-winning Westport House & Pirate Adventure Park is the perfect day out for family fun, heritage and adventure activities.  There is so much fun to be had for families at the estate’s outdoor amusements in the Pirate Adventure Park as well as a visit to the house itself.  Kids can take the plunge on the Cannonball Run slide which will leave them screaming for more, while thrill seekers will give a hearty welcome to the Pirate Queen Swinging Ship and the Pirate Plunge log flume ride.
